At around 8pm, eyewitnesses saw smoke coming from towards the back of Pinetree School. Several fire engines responded shortly after and around the same time the smoke went away, but the smokey smell remained. It is unclear at this time exactly what happened. We'll update this story when more information comes in Sarah Alarid's car was found in a ravine off Sand Canyon Rd this morning. An unidentified body was found in or near the car.
We experienced technical difficulties with our over the air transmission today. As a result, Radio Free Pinetree could not be heard over 99.1 FM in the Pinetree Area today for a period of time. We resolved the issue at around 7pm this evening and are back on the air in the Pinetree Area. We apologize for any inconvienence or confusion that resulted. Our internet stream was not disrupted. Over 1600 residents were without power all day today in the Pinetree Area. Power is not expected to be completely restored until later this evening. Homes afftected by this outage are in the Shadow Pines area. The outage started this morning at 9:13am. The Pinetree area went dark this afternoon. At around 11:30am, the Pinetree area east of Sand Canyon Rd lost power. It was restored by 1pm. We have not received word on what caused the outage. On Tuesday, June 7th from 6am to 6pm, you will not be able to park along most of Lotusgarden Dr South of Pinetree School and on Flowerpark Dr. between Poppyseed and Soledad. No parking signs are posted throughout the neighborhood. Flames erupted in the hills behind Pinetree Elementary School at around 5:30 this evening. The fire was slow moving and fire crews were able to get a handle on it quickly with the aide of water dropping helicopters. The fire department was on scene for a few hours after the fire was out to clear brush and to cool any hot spots. The fire was apparently started by some kids ![]() We have been experiencing some internal electrical problems this past week which has resulted in some outages this past week. These outages resulted in few periods of time in which dead air could be heard and our website was unavailable. We apologize if this inconvenienced anybody and are working on resolving this issue There was a power outage in the Pinetree Neighborhood starting at around 1:45am, lasting for roughly 20 minutes. The outage was caused by a car hitting a power pole on Sand Canyon Rd. Click HERE to read the full article on the KHTS website. We remained on the air for the duration of the outage. Southern California Edison had scheduled to perform some repairs today which would have disrupted power for parts of the Pinetree Neighborhood. However, like the last outage, this too has been canceled. The scheduled outage was set to take place sometime between the hours of 9am and 7pm. This outage was originally scheduled for March 3rd, but it was postponed at the last minute. A Portion of Soledad Canyon Road will be closed Monday, Tuesday, and Friday of this week between 10pm and 6am. They will be filming for the upcoming movie Faster. This will disrupt traffic in and out of the Pinetree Neighborhood.
